The extra thing:
- It can be served with or without rice.
- Add fresh chilli to enhance the dish or serve it with tabasco.
- Use pre-cooked kidney beans (canned).
- For more texture use rump steak cut into cubes.
- The Cajun mix is made with thyme, paprika, black pepper, cumin, pink onion, mustard seeds and chilli. It is easily found in the supermarket which is already made.
Ingredients
250 g red kidney beans cuits | |
50 cl veal broth | |
0.5 red bell pepper | |
1 shallot | |
1 tsp brown sugar | |
2 clove of garlic | |
400 g crushed tomatoes | |
1 tbsp olive oil | |
1 tbsp Cajun spice mix | |
1 tbsp oregano | |
400g ground beef |
Instructions

Peel and cut raw vegetables into cubes and set aside

Heat a casserole dish (or sauté pan) over medium heat.
Add the olive oil and sauté the shallot, garlic and bell pepper together for 5 minutes. |

Pour in the Cajun spice mix and oregano.
Add drained and rinsed kidney beans. Brown everything and add the sugar and the veal broth. |

Add the beef and continue cooking over low heat for 20 minutes.
